Landscape mood and memory, my paintings are made of this. Comprised of oil and cold wax I enjoy creating layers of inscribed paint, drawing into the surface as I go, allowing to dry and then applying more scratchy layers.
Inspired by dramatic fenland skies or empty coastline I make sketches and half-worked beginnings which I explore later in the studio working in oil and gouache. Mixing oil paint with cold wax I can achieve a matt surface, no shine, just like the gouache. Together they sit side by side.
Years ago I worked in thread after completing a City & Guilds in Creative Embroidery. The desire to express myself in paint soon followed and I completed the Open College of the Arts Painting Course. Now painting has become my main focus.
